Mathematics at Rotherfield

At Rotherfield, we ensure that your child leaves us ready to be a confident and enthusiastic mathematician in secondary school and beyond. We place great emphasis upon developing the key skills in mathematics so that your child can apply a solid understanding of number to solve problems in a wide range of real-life situations.

Our broad and balanced mathematics curriculum will enable your child to:

  • Express themselves fluently, talk about the subject with assurance and to use the correct mathematical vocabulary.

  • Experience maths as a challenging, creative and relevant subject and promote a positive and confident attitude.

  • Apply a range of fundamental skills such as number bonds, multiplication tables and calculation strategies for the four operations.

Maths calculation policy

Our calculation policy is used by all teachers to support children's learning in maths, ensuring consistency throughout their time at Rotherfield. The policy is split into the four specific calculation areas - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and can be found in the 'School Policies' area of the website.
